Things That Have Gotten Better (and Worse) Since Obama Became President

February 21, 2009

Gina Cobb (she herself blogging at GINA COBB) and posting at RWN (RightWingNews) has summed the first month of RHO’s accomplishments very tidily.

Things That Have Gotten WORSE Since Obama Became President

A lot has changed in the month since Obama became president. Let’s review, shall we?

1. The U.S. stock market has plumetted to a six-year low. But, hey, it’s only your retirement money, right?

2. Nationalization of banks has become a serious possibility. America, the new banana republic.

3. Obama has backed three MASSIVE new spending initiatives (the $787 billion stimulus bill, the trillion-dollar financial stability initiative and the $275 billion mortgage assistance program). A trillion here, a trillion there — but who’s counting?

4. Hundreds of thousands of classic children’s books (children’s books printed before the early 1980s) are being destroyed all across the country because they may contain miniscule traces of lead in their print

5. Obama has lost a key air base providing the only supply line into Afghanistan, jeopardizing any future military action the U.S. may need to take in the region

6. Russia has become emboldened and increasingly aggressive

7. Iran has also become more emboldened and aggressive, has launched its first home-built earth satellite, and now has enough material to make a nuclear weapon

8. Pakistan has freed the notorious A.Q. Khan, who sold nuclear technology to North Korea, Libya and Iran, and has capitulated to the brutal Taliban in the Swat region

9. Obama has announced that he will close Guantanamo within a year — even though his administration has no clear answer to the question of what to do with the most dangerous GITMO terrorists, including 9/11 matermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

10. Obama has dropped charges against the U.S.S. Cole bombing suspect allegedly responsible for the deaths of American sailors. It’s been a good month for terrorists.

Now, here is a list of the things that have gotten better since Obama became president:

Things That Have Gotten BETTER Since Obama Became President

1. America has had its first African American president. (Technically, this doesn’t count, though, since it didn’t happen after Obama became president).

2. . . . .

Surely there’s something.

2.. . . . . .

Help me out here.

Anyone?

2. . . . .

I guess that’s it, then.

I can’t wait to see Obama’s second month in office.

Who Needs Fairness, We Have a “Doctrine”

February 20, 2009

It’s coming…we all know that the Dems and the Left hate the fact that Conservative Talk Radio is successful, that Progressive Talk Radio “generally” fails (Air America and Pacifica Radio in bankruptcy), more than likely because all they do is rant and rave and have no content past their hate of George W. Bush. Oh, but wait, President Bush is NO longer President, so what is there to talk about now? How about George W. Bush, ad nauseam, ad infinitum, all day every day, non-stop–STILL!

So, certain Democrats like Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin and Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow kicked up debate in recent weeks by calling for a return to those standards, after Sen. Chuck Schumer and David Axelrod have made dire demands and threats about it’s return. New York Democratic Rep. Maurice Hinchey, even Bubba Clinton has weighed in that we either need the Censorship Doctrine or something that adds balance. Then there is Bill Press whining that he doesn’t make enough money because he’s BORING and loses stations, therefor it’s the Evil Conservative Talk Machine keeping he and his message of goodness of the One down, silenced because of corporate greed–in other words, be successful and bring in ad money!

The ONE has advised his followers as well us infidels (Republicans and Conservatives) to NOT listen to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, they’ll only propagandize us into unbelieving in Change and Change for Change Sake, to obstruct the true and good teachings of His Royal Obamaness (HRO), the One who knows what’s better for Americans, even tho 47% of voters did not vote for him and the policies we knew he would bring.

Well, Rush is not particularly interested in going quietly into the long goodnight of Censorship Doctrine Hell, he is willing to point out the OTHER back-door avenues that HRO has to get around the “Fairness” Doctrine, since he continues to say he will not support or further the cause of the outspoken Demon-crats.

Mr. President, Keep the Airwaves Free

As a former law professor, surely you understand the Bill of Rights.

By RUSH LIMBAUGH

Dear President Obama:

I have a straightforward question, which I hope you will answer in a straightforward way: Is it your intention to censor talk radio through a variety of contrivances, such as “local content,” “diversity of ownership,” and “public interest” rules — all of which are designed to appeal to populist sentiments but, as you know, are the death knell of talk radio and the AM band? [my emphasis]

You have singled me out directly, admonishing members of Congress not to listen to my show. Bill Clinton has since chimed in, complaining about the lack of balance on radio. And a number of members of your party, in and out of Congress, are forming a chorus of advocates for government control over radio content. This is both chilling and ominous.

As a former president of the Harvard Law Review and a professor at the University of Chicago Law School, you are more familiar than most with the purpose of the Bill of Rights: to protect the citizen from the possible excesses of the federal government. The First Amendment says, in part, that “Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press.” The government is explicitly prohibited from playing a role in refereeing among those who speak or seek to speak. We are, after all, dealing with political speech — which, as the Framers understood, cannot be left to the government to police.

When I began my national talk show in 1988, no one, including radio industry professionals, thought my syndication would work. There were only about 125 radio stations programming talk. And there were numerous news articles and opinion pieces predicting the fast death of the AM band, which was hemorrhaging audience and revenue to the FM band. Some blamed the lower-fidelity AM signals. But the big issue was broadcast content. It is no accident that the AM band was dying under the so-called Fairness Doctrine, which choked robust debate about important issues because of its onerous attempts at rationing the content of speech.

After the Federal Communications Commission abandoned the Fairness Doctrine in the mid-1980s, Congress passed legislation to reinstitute it. When President Reagan vetoed it, he declared that “This doctrine . . . requires Federal officials to supervise the editorial practices of broadcasters in an effort to ensure that they provide coverage of controversial issues and a reasonable opportunity for the airing of contrasting viewpoints of those issues. This type of content-based regulation by the Federal Government is . . . antagonistic to the freedom of expression guaranteed by the First Amendment. . . . History has shown that the dangers of an overly timid or biased press cannot be averted through bureaucratic regulation, but only through the freedom and competition that the First Amendment sought to guarantee.”

Today the number of radio stations programming talk is well over 2,000. In fact, there are thousands of stations that air tens of thousands of programs covering virtually every conceivable topic and in various languages. The explosion of talk radio has created legions of jobs and billions in economic value. Not bad for an industry that only 20 years ago was moribund. Content, content, content, Mr. President, is the reason for the huge turnaround of the past 20 years, not “funding” or “big money,” as Mr. Clinton stated. And not only has the AM band been revitalized, but there is competition from other venues, such as Internet and satellite broadcasting. It is not an exaggeration to say that today, more than ever, anyone with a microphone and a computer can broadcast their views. And thousands do.

Mr. President, we both know that this new effort at regulating speech is not about diversity but conformity. It should be rejected. You’ve said you’re against reinstating the Fairness Doctrine, but you’ve not made it clear where you stand on possible regulatory efforts to impose so-called local content, diversity-of-ownership, and public-interest rules that your FCC could issue.

I do not favor content-based regulation of National Public Radio, newspapers, or broadcast or cable TV networks. I would encourage you not to allow your office to be misused to advance a political vendetta against certain broadcasters whose opinions are not shared by many in your party and ideologically liberal groups such as Acorn, the Center for American Progress, and MoveOn.org. There is no groundswell of support behind this movement. Indeed, there is a groundswell against it.

The fact that the federal government issues broadcast licenses, the original purpose of which was to regulate radio signals, ought not become an excuse to destroy one of the most accessible and popular marketplaces of expression. The AM broadcast spectrum cannot honestly be considered a “scarce” resource. So as the temporary custodian of your office, you should agree that the Constitution is more important than scoring transient political victories, even when couched in the language of public interest.

We in talk radio await your answer. What will it be? Government-imposed censorship disguised as “fairness” and “balance”? Or will the arena of ideas remain a free market?

Comrades, we are well on our way to a Socialist State, any censorship of Free Speech anywhere will be the last nail in the collective coffin.

UPDATE II: McQ @ RWN (RightWingNews.com) has a post,  Dissent and Hate Speech, that seques into this discussion. The part of distinct interest starts about halfway down…

Eugene Volokh has a very interesting post up about a UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center study titled Hate Speech on Commercial Talk Radio.

It’s a fascinating post which demonstrates how hard certain groups are working another angle aimed at talk-radio (and read the comments, where commenters take the study’s assertions aparat). Hate-speech is a lever that various groups on the left have been trying to enable for years. From the study, here’s their definition of hate speech:

Types of Hate Speech

We identified four types of speech that, through negative statements, create a climate of hate and prejudice: (1) false facts [including “simple falsehoods, exaggerated statements, or decontextualized facts [that] rendered the statements misleading”], (2) flawed argumentation, (3) divisive language, and (4) dehumanizing metaphors (table 1).    Then the examples: [go to link on title above]

DOCTRINE AIR DEMOCRACY

Senior FCC staff working for acting Federal Communications Commissioner Michael Copps held meetings last week with policy and legislative advisers to House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman to discuss ways the committee can create openings for the FCC to put in place a form of the “Fairness Doctrine” without actually calling it such.

Waxman is also interested, say sources, in looking at how the Internet is being used for content and free speech purposes. “It’s all about diversity in media,” says a House Energy staffer, familiar with the meetings. “Does one radio station or one station group control four of the five most powerful outlets in one community? Do four stations in one region carry Rush Limbaugh, and nothing else during the same time slot? Does one heavily trafficked Internet site present one side of an issue and not link to sites that present alternative views? These are some of the questions the chairman is thinking about right now, and we are going to have an FCC that will finally have the people in place to answer them.”   [Read the rest at Title Link above]

I Love VDH–Victor Davis Hanson

February 17, 2009

I Love Victor Davis Hanson–he can cut to the chase and lay it out so much better than most of the others that only try to explain what is going on and (to use my mom’s best sayings) “How the cow ate the cabbage.”

The Audacity of Irony
“Hope and change” meet reality. The ironies bring us back to the unlamented days of Jimmy Carter.
By Victor Davis Hanson

We have seen irony before, when the moralist Jimmy Carter chastised us with sermons about our paranoid, inordinate fear of Communism and our amoral unconcern with human rights, even as the dividends of his policies were the Soviets in Afghanistan and the Ayatollah Khomeini in Iran — and even greater global misery than before.

For the last 24 months a youthful Barack Obama has daily offered unspecified “hope and change” idealism — all set against the supposed cynical wrongdoing of the tired Bush administration. In the unhinged manner in which his supporters turned a center-right president like George Bush into some sort of sinister reactionary, so too they deified a rookie senator as the long-awaited liberal messiah.

How could irony not follow from all that?

For the past seven years the United States has seen no repeat of 9/11, although plots were uncovered and threats from radical Islam were leveled in serial fashion. The ability to intercept and hold terrorists overseas, to tap into cell-phone calls abroad, to detain terrorists caught on the field of battle, and to ensure that intelligence agencies freely swapped information was critical to our unexpected salvation.

Like Lincoln, Wilson, FDR, Truman, and other wartime presidents (though none of the above witnessed 3,000 Americans butchered on the soil of the United States by foreign agents), George Bush, with strong bipartisan support, enacted new wartime protocols in the effort to protect the security of the United States. Only a fool would suggest that these homeland-security efforts were unnecessary, or that, in unprecedented fashion, they shredded the Constitution.

Just a Little Something to Raise your BP this Morning

February 13, 2009

The Bill was Posted for review last night around 11PM EST–giving only about 10 hours for Senators & Congress to read before voting. Here’s a couple of items to help you understand that we need to BOHICA!

Congressional Offices Don’t Have the Stimulus Bill, Lobbyists Do

HURRY, FELLAS, LET’S VOTE, I AM OFF TO ROME!

Democratic Senator Predicts None of His Colleagues ‘Will Have the Chance’ to Read Final Stimulus Bill Before Vote

SURPRISE! Dems Break Promise: Stimulus Bill to Floor Friday

If you want to get a feel how the folks to the left supporting this bill regurgitate the line from the ONE, go back to yesterday’s post and read the comments from James. He tried to convert me, but it’s all 1936 Keynesian Economics BS.

BTW, why are we using 1936 Economics that didn’t work for FDR (by his own Sec’y of the Treasury’s admission in his diary) in 2009 ?

I will add more throughout the day to ensure that we keep that Blood Pressure up–just think of the endorphins that are being released.

Have a great Day!

UPDATE:   Well we knew it would happen, but I have one question: How can it be legal to require the House Representatives to vote on 1000+ Page bill that was released in the middle of the night before the vote–giving virtually No One a chance to read and discuss the bill????

House passes Obama’s economic stimulus bill

UPDATE II:  Guess what, they just posted the bill for “Public Review”, they also have a place for Comments. Add yours and see if it gets posted.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

UPDATE III:  A friend points out that the links to the Bill DO NOT WORK! I’ve tried numerous engines, but no go. I guess we’re not going to see it until after the Senate Votes! Any bets?

Tell me what IT (the Spendulus Bill) does for the People

February 12, 2009

You’ve probably gathered (by now), I’m not a Econo-geek, Policy Wonk or Demon-Crat, so I’m at a loss as to what I am to expect from the 2009 Stimulus Bill that is being prepared to Pass both the Senate and the House voting today or tomorrow, so that The One, HRO (His Royal Obamaness), the Savior can sign the Bill on President’s Day, Monday.

What I am is a techno-mechanic sales guy; someone that came to an interest in politics very late and having to work through and read a lot of nonsense and BS to try to make up for my lackadaisical attitude toward what impacted my life the first 46 years.

I had my Republican Epiphany in ’78 (during TWO’s–the Worthless One’s=Carter–regime) while in the Navy serving on a submarine out of Norfolk (which at the time was in VA, whose slogan then was “Welcome to VEPCO (the utility co back then), formerly know as Virginia). It was then that during a cruise ( I was on a fast attack boat so we went out for undetermined amounts of time, “boomers”–the ballistic missle subs– had the luxury of 100 day rotations) that I was bored enough (and after I had finished my qualifications) to look hard at my paycheck and realized that the amount of taxes I paid during the year actually paid my own salary for 4 months since I was employed by the government–so I was working for free for 4 months!  That realization was enough for me to change from being an Independent to a Republican. At that moment in time I had only voted once, for the the guy I thought was the best choice and because (primarily) the Doobie Brothers backed him–yep, I hoisted myself on my own petard–Carter. I also considered myself a liberal kind of guy becasue I grew up and came of age in the 60s and early 70s; but with age comes contemplation and I realize now I was always a conservative, even back with long hair and rock-n-roll, disgusted with all things political and the “man”. I never blamed the soldiers (I had a number of friends that served, and 3 that never made it home) in ‘Nam for anything, in fact, the only protest I participated in was the day of the Kent State “Masacre”–we walked out of class as the news spread and prayed at the flagpole for “our” fallen. Not silly, even now (of course, you couldn’t pray on school grounds now), that we did that, but other than that I took part in nothing else regarding that turmoil and tumultuos times.

But I’ve digressed, I am no longer a neophyte to the crap that all politicians–Repubs, RINOs, Demo & Demon-crats, even Indpendents or whatever else– say and do to get in and keep office. 9/11 changed me further–it made me pay attention, and after those terrible days, I kept paying attention. So now, I am not an innocent to what things they put forth will or won’t affect my life and livelihood. I have learned, especially since 9/11, what these assholes in Congress, the Senate and the Presidency, as well as the Cabinet, Justice, State and Judicial branch “employees” all want to do–stay alive in politics!

They don’t care how they get or keep their position; they don’t care about me or you; they only care for the power that “we” give them; but then, they want to keep and hold that power until they die, and in some cases treat as a legacy to pass on to their progeny, surrogates and wards. So in my infinite political wisdom (sarc) I’ve garnered in the last seven years, I realized all the above, but as well, that no one but myself is ever going to do anything for this 54 (almost) year old, white, Baptist, middle-class background and current (until I became unemployed) “social”standing, “Conservi-can” male. Actually, I determined that in ’78, but in the last seven years I’ve had to rely on others to keep me save from those that would destroy us. Now, today, I have to worry about those within my government that would destroy us from the inside with their “Spendulus Bill”.

I spent the early morning hours today reading various articles that explain what’s happening and going to happen with this Bill much better than I can. I’m going to list these 4 most direct and informative of those I’ve read in the last week for you to read as trying to post effective parts or paragraphs would taken even more room than I’ve taken already. So, I leave it up to you to read and digest for yourselves what is being done to us by these political animals who know better than experts or those unwashed masses (us) what is good for the country. From everything I read (with my logical approach to understanding being the techno-mechanical guy–see above), this payoff/spendulus/pork-ridden/government expansion Bill, will do nothing for anyone except themselves (those that are passing this thing) and construction (light or heavy), union and munifedgov (municipal & federal government employees) folks. There is nothing in this bill to stimulate what the majority of us out in the real world do for a living–private sector/consumer jobs. There is nothing to drive the technology or give us any way to drive the consumer spending in this bill, other than $13 a week more in our paychecks! Man, now that’s a “tax-cut”! They were afraid we’d pay bills or save the $400 or $800 (single or married) if they sent a check–so they’re going to just ctu the taxes a few dollars. Great! Yahooo! Yippee! The rest of the bill is nothing more than Demon-crat spending to those who brung them to the dance! So, what does it do for the rest of us? Nothing! They even cut the things for those of us that are unemployed–help with COBRA health payments and extension or increase in benefits.

It is too late to hope that the Tri-RINOs (Specter, Snow & Collins) have enough heart and soul to VOTE NO, we know they won’t. We can only watch and wait to see exactly what will happen as the Bill is paid out–we can’t even see where the money’s really going go until the thing is signed!

Let me know if any of the few of you that’ll read this can explain it better than the four I’m suggesting that you read or if you can explain how this is going to benefit me, mine and you in the near future, or the far future, for that matter.

Thanks, I’ll look forward to your input; here’s the list:

Do You REALLY Know what this Bill means?

February 10, 2009

Holy Crap!  I don’t even know where to start this!

Let me try this, The Democrats are doing what we’ve fought against forever–they’re getting their Socialized Health Care through the Back Door of the Stimulus Bill.

Buried deep in the hard-to-read Bill, of course intentially, is the Nationalization – and rationing – of health care is in the stimulus bill!Betsy McCaughy of Bloomberg has brought the alert out yesterday.

The bill’s health rules will affect “every individual in the United States” (445, 454, 479). Your medical treatments will be tracked electronically by a federal system. Having electronic medical records at your fingertips, easily transferred to a hospital, is beneficial. It will help avoid duplicate tests and errors.

But the bill goes further. One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective. The goal is to reduce costs and “guide” your doctor’s decisions (442, 446). These provisions in the stimulus bill are virtually identical to what Daschle prescribed in his 2008 book, “Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis.” According to Daschle, doctors have to give up autonomy and “learn to operate less like solo practitioners.”

Keeping doctors informed of the newest medical findings is important, but enforcing uniformity goes too far.

So, folks, if you’re a “boomer” or older, you’re going die a whole sooner than you were just weeks ago. GOT IT?! If you have health issues, diabetes, high blood pressure, degenerative bone or muscle disease, you smoke, eat meat, drink too much, you are going to be shit-out-of-luck, sorry no sugar coating, cutesie-wutesie spelling–plain and simple–We Are Screwed!

They are taking this one step further than even the Canadian Health Care System or Euro-Social Health Care, etc.–they are grading your life automatically via electronic records that the “state” will look at, as this Program does.  They are going to electronically input your health data, then electronically sort the data and give you a Health Grade, this in turn will determine where you will be in line for your needs or issues. If your Grade is low, then you wait, if it’s high (you’re 30, run 5 miles a day, don’t smoke, a vegan and  only drink recycled pee-water in a refillable bio-degradable bottle), then you go to the front of the line.

Now, we won’t have the opportunity the rest of the world that have similar free or socialized medicine/health care have today, which is to come to the U.S. to get the Health care when they can’t get it at home. They won’t come here anymore AND we won’t have anywhere to go.

The Democratic Cowards know that this would not pass stand alone as a Program Bill so they stuck in the Stimulus Bill hoping no one would notice.

I sent out Ten eMails to Senators (including Snowe & Collins, the RINOS that are helping to pass this bill along with Specter) last night about this, you should do the same to your Senators, your Congress reps and everyone that will listen. Here is the Senate member Link:  Senate Home,  just either select your state or the Senator’s name you want to contact.  Do it NOW!

Even FoxNews is talking about it now & Drudge had it this morning (it wasn’t there last evening).

Read the Bloomberg article and stop this Bill–it is not in our best or healthy interest–it certainly isn’t stimulus!

UPDATE:Arlen Specter (Rino, PA) was just on FNC with Megan Kelley and clarilied–yes, clari-LIED, his way through the segment and said he’d not take back his commitment to vote for the Bill! He tried to say that he wouldn’t let it “broaden” any further, but that means he’s okay with how it reads now!  He’s a Lying-Sack-of-Shit RINO bastard. Contact your Senators, including Snowe & Collins–I said in my eMail last night that Specer was worthless, and he’s just confirmed it if you didn’t know it before. As Worf would say, ‘He’s a waste of Skin.’

UPDATE 2:FoxNews followed up (fair & balanced, ya’know) with  Sen. John Tester(Demon-crat, MT) used words like: “If” , “I’m not sure”, & “I think”–finally, “If it’s in there, we’ll get it out, but it should take us to 21st century health care.” AND, “It’s putting people back to work.” Holy Crap (again)! Geez, folks they’re voting for this in an hour & a half at 11AM CST!   BTW, I just took my BP which is usually considered normal/good at around 120/80–it was 142/90–guess I’m doomed under this bill!

FINAL UPDATE:Well, it passed with  the same vote count it passed Cloture yesterday, 61-37. The RINOS did it, they sold our souls down the river.  So, now it passes to the conferences to redraft the bill with the House, which means it will be bigger and those things taken out by the RINO negotiations will go back in. $838Billion will probably go back and over $900B.

Welcome to Socialism, folks, I hope those that wanted it enjoy it and those of us that didn’t know that we must stand up and fight anyway we can to stop what has been passed. Do not agree to allowing your life to be controlled by the  “State”.

Stimulus Deal? So, where’s MY job?

February 8, 2009

Those that know me well, and maybe some of those other few that stop in here to read, know that I was laid off the last week of December; primarily due to the economic crisis, and specifically, the absolute dying of consumer and DOD electronics orders.

I’m a technical sales guy. I have sold everything from ion-implanters (used in the process of semiconductor chips manufacturing) to Heating and Air Conditioning; from CAD equipment to printed circuit boards, and then driller/routers in the printed circuit board manufacturing industry to dry ice blasters for non-destructive industrial cleaning. So, if you notice, they’re all driven by consumer needs or requirements.

Now, from one minute to the next I cannot tell you what’s in or what’s out of the Stimulus Bill that the Senate RINOs (Snow/Collins/Spectre, oops, Specter) caved into Reid for a piece of the pie and seems to be poised to pass on Tuesday. There is a tiny tax cut for businesses that hopefully will encourage expansion and hiring. There is going to be “tax cuts” in the form of money/checks to “taxpayers”, and maybe that will drive a revitalization of consumer wants & desires.

The majority of the bill is spending on Democrat-favored pork, they’re earmarks (even though the Democrats refuse to call it that) programs and social engineering.

Oh sure, there are the shovel-ready projects like water slides, frisbee golf courses, dog parks that might produce jobs (what, those three need around 20 folks–ooh, wow, sign me up). Then there are the infrastructure rebuilding and planning that should produce jobs, but those will be subcontracted out to companies that specialize in that type of work who already have employees. Maybe not enough, so perhaps that will create a 10-20% increase in employment at dirt cheap wages, unless you’re a heavy machinery operator (perhaps I should be going to one of those tranining schools; although, if I can drive a submarine–which I’ve done–then how hard can a bulldozer be?).

All the other spending is programs that will NOT create jobs–STD Prevention & Education programs (I hear it’s in, then it’s out; but I’m with Sean Hannity, you wouldn’t need this item at all if you QUIT having sex with strangers!); money to the National Endowment for the Arts (hey, I write, give me me some of that); BILLIONS are going to (are you ready) ACORN! (Well, I guess it does take money to rig elections and pay voters to vote 10-30 times.) There’s hundreds of millions to billions of dollars for research and investigation of non-existent Anthropogenic (man-made) Global Warming or Climate Change, as the Goracle is trying to re-brand it as more and more actual planetary/geologic/environmental scientist are coming out exposing the hoax. More Millions will be sent to left-winged National Public(?) Radio; and  hundreds of  billions and billions to things we don’t even know about.  Billions to do away with oil production and invest in pie-in-the-sky environmentally-friendly energy that will do nothing, again in the short term, but raise our energy costs. But, tell me how many jobs are going to be created with this specific spending?

The spending is supposed to and is directed to stimulate the economy in the short term. The shovel-ready and infrastructure projects won’t even start this year for the most part, and in most cases not before 2010! The social projects/programs will create little if no private sector jobs, if a few are created they will be governement jobs–growing the government again–and how do you get those jobs?

And I have a problem with the Republican plans as well–they’re harping on fixing the Housing and Automobile debacles! ‘They’re what started this mess.’ They want to bail out the folks under the threat of  foreclosure (now, I can sympathise with them, but my understanding was that was part of the November TARP bailout); and give tax credits to folks that buy homes and cars? I’m out of work, trying to manage living expenses and stay in my rental home on the paltry sum of $1512 a month from unemployment insurance. The last thing I am planning on doing in the near foreseeable future is buy a house or new car! And the one thing in the bill I thought I could use was helping pay COBRA health insurance and the damn Republicans cut that out! Geez!

I’d prefer to make a living writing. I mean, I have four complete novels finished (about a total of 1300 pages ready for print), a fantasy trilogy and a espionage/terrorist novel, but I can’t find an agent or a publisher. I’m a neophyte and trying to weed through the minutia and break into the clique to get published is nearly impossible without help from someone inside. I have another eleven novels to write in the fantasy series, four more with my new recurring intelligence character and then one or two others. These are all working in my head, but I have no way to get them out while trying to find a job consuming my life right now, but if I was published, then I could; wait, that’s the Catch-22, isn’t it. Oh well.

So, my question is this, of the 825 Billion to 1 Trillion (after it goes back through Congress and Pelosi adds back in what the Senate stripped out) spending and tax cuts where is my job? Although, I’m not abject to physical labor, those construction jobs will go to others before I get in line as there really won’t be that many jobs created and they’ll be going to base line pay grades. I’m a technical guy, I carried a electronics’ field engineering toolkit before I moved into sales some 20+ years ago, so my technical troubleshooting expertise is far out of state-of-the-art.

I know I will find a job, I always do, but with this economic malaise/crisis/atmosphere it will probably be a while. My point in being so honest and forthcoming here in this post is to articulate what most of us that are unemployed are feeling right now. The Stimulus does NOTHING to create enough jobs to make a difference, nor does it Stimulate the economy to create the jobs needed. It rewards those that the Democrats favor and got Obama elected, it rewards those that already screwed up or failed their customers in business, and rewards those that want the government to take over their lives and ensure that they continue their free ride on the government dole.

I stated this in my last post, Obama has failed and is ignoring or denying it–this is not a win for America and the people know it. The President is, in fact, ignoring the Polls that show there is less than 40% in favor of the bill, but Onama/Pelosi/Reid always state that the Majority of Americans are in favor–I guess they can’t read. Hey, that would explain why they don’t pay their taxes; that and they know where that money goes–so why pay them if it’s just getting flushed along with the other crap that they put out.

STIMULUS? It’s Very Simple, Really

Merriam-Webster On-Line

stim·u·lus
Pronunciation: \ˈstim-yə-ləs\
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural stim·u·li \-ˌlī, -ˌlē\
Etymology: Latin
Date: 1684
: something that rouses or incites to activity: as a: incentive b: stimulant 1

Okay, how hard is this? It’s very simple, really; does it stimulate or incentivize the economy with money to get that same money into the hands of the people who will spend it on goods and services? Does it produce jobs in the short term, say within six months and specifically within a year?

Business/corporate tax cuts, “tax” rebates (yes, even if some receive that are not entitled) and grants for business start-ups or honest-to-God shovel-ready projects that require immediate new hires. Everything else is a wish list and desires; it does nothing to stimulate the economy and only gives those that want a socialist government what they’ve wanted for forty years. That is not stimulus, that’s social engineering and payoffs to the unions and supporters.

So, easy enough–

If  it gives the incentives to stimulate job production: Keep it!

If it does not: Scrap it!

All these other programs and items in the Bill, especially the infrastructure repair and expansion, should be addressed separately in individual bills or in a spending bill.

We all need to see what our Senators are doing regarding this Stimulus Bill, and inform them what we believe should be done. Let them know (see contact link below) we want no Pork, no Social programs, and if it doesn’t produce a job in the near term, put it in a different bill, including the Republicans stupid proposal to bail out the Foreclosures–that should come out of the TARP–wasn’t that part of that plan?
