I Love Jack Hawkins — Conservatism is Dead (?)

April 21, 2009

Well, let’s take stock, shall we, conservatives are Right-wing extremist radicals inclined to join militias per His Royal Obamaness’ Department of Homeland Security Secretary, Janny Nappy, and most recently because we got our backs up at Congress and The One over the spendulous, omniBS and Buggerit Bills, rebuild a greater and more socialist government and country (U.S.S.A), but mistakenly mislabeled the whole thing “Tea Parties” (ooh, you ignorant knuckle-draggers, don’t you know that the Boston Tea Party was about Taxation without representation–you’re represented and, gosh, you’re getting $400 whole dollars rebate–gee, how ungrateful can you be?), we’re now racist because the whole “Tax Day Revolution” was about southern KKK tea-baggin’ racist scum! Just ask the Olbermanniac and JG, the wonder lez.

Anyway, I digress, Jack has determined that this, our cause, is all to no avail, and sites the MSM, Demoncrats, TheLEFT, BHO, the Obamafascists, and assundry “mainstream” Republicans (a.k.a. RINOs) like Meghan McCain (who put her in charge, anyway?) & her father, along with of the Elite Republican commenters; we,  conservatives, are dead as a political influence.  We just haven’t dug the grave and held the wake yet, but we might as well have.

So, please read  Jack’s obituary for us:

The Top Ten Reasons Conservatism is Dead as Disco!
John Hawkins
Tuesday, April 21, 2009

First of all, I know this column isn’t going to be popular with all the mouth breathing, troglodytic, primitive dittoheads out there. But, facts are facts: conservatives are NEVER, EVER, EVER going to get back into power again.

The mainstream media says so, legendary conservative icons like David Frum, Meghan McCain, and David Brooks say so — and, yes, Democrats in Congress who we should remember soundly beat us in November, say so.

So, I think it’s time to point out what even completely unbiased political luminaries like Chuck Schumer and Keith Olbermann have been saying since Barack Obama was elected: conservatism is done, over with, as finished as warm days in the middle of December!

1) Sure, America’s political history has been one long churning political cycle with both party’s fortunes going up and down, but that’s not going to happen this time! This time, the Republicans aren’t going to learn anything from losing, conservatives aren’t going to be inspired to take action by being out of power, and the Democrats aren’t going to get even more complacent and corrupt as they enjoy the rewards of being in power. Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid are just too smart, too sharp, and too doggone perfect to allow that to happen!

2) Conservatives are fighting with each other too much (more…)

“Most” Liberals are L.S.O.S.

March 31, 2009

Well, they are, lying sacks of shit, that is. John Hawkins, founder of RightWingNews, calls it like he sees it (the Title above is mine, btw, not his) and evaluates the LEFT with a great eye at seeing through their BS.

His column this morning in Townhall is just such and evaluation.

The Top Seven Techniques Liberals Use to Lie About Conservatives
John Hawkins
Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Liberals spend much of their time trying to hide what they believe from the public while conservatives are perpetually frustrated by the fact that the American people don’t seem to understand what we really believe. Both problems spring from a single source: liberals lie incessantly. That’s not to say that there aren’t conservative liars or truthful liberals; there are, but for liberals, lying is the rule, not the exception.

There are two reasons why liberals lie much more than conservatives. First off, this is a center-right country and liberal beliefs are much more unpopular than conservative ones. If liberals told the truth about what they believe and want to do, the Democratic Party would practically be wiped out in much of the country.

Additionally, conservatives tend to think liberals are merely stupid or emotional, while liberals tend to view conservatives as evil — and liberals use that belief to justify lying about conservatives. After all, if you lie about someone who’s evil to keep them from doing bad things, couldn’t that be considered virtuous? You may disagree with that, but liberal politicians, bloggers, and journalists live by that rule. Any lie told about a conservative, even one that liberals know isn’t true, will be uncritically repeated ad nauseum by the Left until the point it becomes politically disadvantageous to do so.

So, in order to help fight the lies of the Left, here’s a guide to the most prevalent techniques that liberals use to mislead people about conservatives. If you’re listening to liberals talk about conservatives, you’re virtually guaranteed to hear at least one of these techniques used.

Dealing with Crapweasels and other Worthless Beings

March 29, 2009

I found The Other McCain via RightWingNews.com and found that someone has finally gone to dirt with these supposed conservatives that made our last election about Democrats & Demon-crat-Lite, by hoisting, with the help of Indies (can somoen pleeeease tell me why Republicans allow “Independents” to vote in our frakking Primaries), John L McCain, the Left and MSM’s favorite RINO.

Robert Stacy McCain’s post details both the definition of a “Crapweasel”, crapweasel1

the “Ransom-Note Method”  and the Twelfth Commandment of Conservatism.

It’s a long piece, but worth the read, enjoy.

Thoughts on the ‘Ransom-Note Method’ and the Twelfth Commandment

Ed Driscoll says he doesn’t know whether it was me or Kathy Shaidle who coined the term “Ransom-Note Method” to describe the way the Left uses selective quotation to smear its targets.

It was me, but with a caveat: The Ransom-Note Method was actually first labeled such by another one of its victims, a friend of mine who hasn’t claimed credit for the coinage and whose name I therefore can’t reveal.

The term derives from the way the smear merchants typically assemble their smears by quoting a phrase here, two words there, and two sentences from something else, and then gluing it together with their own perjorative interpolations and a bit of guilt-by-association, much like a kidnapper cutting out words from a magazine to paste together a ransom note.

This was how Rush Limbaugh’s “I want him to fail” remark became such a scandalous thing. As Jeff Goldstein has pointed out, if you read Limbaugh’s remarks in context — I actually heard the whole monologue as Rush did it live on the radio — it is very clear the point he was making:

Obama is trying to implement a liberal agenda. I am not a liberal, and I think liberalism is bad for the country. Therefore, I hope Obama fails in his attempt to implement it.

The only thing really “controversial” in Rush’s monologue is the belief that liberalism is a bad thing, which is something (more…)

I Love Victor Davis Hanson–Bush Did It

March 20, 2009

With tongue placed firmly in cheek, VDH writes a column as if all the things said and done recently by Dear Leader and his regime were written under the continuing  BSD (Bush Derangement Syndrome) of the MSM and the LEFT’s watchdogs.

The point being…how are they covering HRO? Did they forget their jobs? Need I answer?

Bush Did It
What a difference an election makes.

By Victor Davis Hanson

President Bush was ridiculed today by critics of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility when he suggested that his administration no longer was incarcerating “unlawful combatants,” but was instead in the process of renaming them as mere “detainees.” The president also promised to close Guantanamo “within the year,” and added that he had assigned a “special task force” to look into the matter.

“Orwellian,” the New York Times fumed in an editorial entitled “Just Close It!”: “If the President’s Ministry of Truth thinks that his metamorphosing words change reality, then it is going to be a long four years. This latest Doublespeak comes on top of the President’s ignoring his past assertions that ‘signing statements are unacceptable’ and continuing the policy unchanged from the Clinton administration.” TheLos Angeles Times joined in, adding, “Remember that Bush promise about posting pending legislation on his administration’s website before signing it into law? Well, somehow several days’ notice has evaporated into 24 hours, and now zilch.”

Bush likewise ignored criticism that on the Patriot Act, FISA, and extraordinary rendition his current public positions were at odds with those that he ran on during the campaign. The Washington Post noted, “Here we go again with Karl Rove’s daily machinations — it is the same old flip-flopping we saw last summer before the election, when an opportunistic Bush reversed himself on NAFTA, public campaign financing, Iraq, the surge, Iran, offshore oil, nuclear power, coal plants, capital punishment, gun control, and abortion. One would think the dignity of the office might nudge Mr. Bush away from his perpetual campaign trimming. But then we have a President who seems glued to his Teleprompter and the scripted message feeding in from the right-wing attack machine.”

The Bush administration was further embarrassed when it boasted that the fundamentals of the economy were “sound” — although in its prior requests for bailout funds just a few weeks ago, it had ridiculed skeptics who countered that the economy’s fundamentals were, in fact, “strong.” Meanwhile, columnist Frank Rich complained that “In times of economic crisis here we go again with greedy and failed AIG execs — buddies of Bush’s clueless Wall Street–retread treasury secretary — using federal money to pay themselves bonuses for their rampant failure. But what do you expect from revolving-door administration officials in bed with the very corporations they used to work for? Get used to more $100-a-pound beef at the ‘let them eat cake’ White House parties, lorded over by this AIG surrogate who took more than $100,000 in their money for who knows what? Maybe Speaker Hastert can let those GM execs on federal welfare piggy-back on his private jet next time they come to Washington to beg for more of our money. These people have no shame.”

Obama Despair Syndrome, ODS2

March 5, 2009

Comrades, er…. No! I’m not ready to go there yet.  Umm, listen folks, I’ve had a hard time the last few days trying to isolate the idea I wanted to post about–I finally decided that I’d try to squash all the latest bull hockey together, so I’ll try.

During the Bush years the LEFT, especially the FarLEFT, suffered from BDS, Bush Derangement Syndrome. The mere mention of his name, glimpse of his face or of him walking or the whisper of his voice, most specifically his wordings of speech, brought about foaming mouths, apoplectic jerking of limbs and complete spinning of heads until they popped off whereupon it would continue to spin like a top on the floor  it’s eyes bugged out with spittle and snot spraying outward infecting others nearby.

As we came to understand that HRO (His Royal Obamaness), The ONE, The Messiah, Dear Leader was not only going to win the Demon-crat nomination for President, but then the election itself, ODS, Obama Derangement Syndrome,  [see fellow WP blogger’s take, altho I have already written about it in another world, linked below: Coming Soon… Obama Derangement Syndrome] set in and rabid Conservatives  began their own version of what had afflicted TheLEFT for eight years with similar disastrous results. They claim he’s not a TRUE born American, that he’s Muslim, that this & that, and waste so much time and effort trying to stop him from taking office or, even now, trying to have him impeached, etc. instead of working to make our representatives stand up to all the Path to Socialism bills, policies and executive orders.

I came to realize since I posted last that I am beginning to suffer from OSD2, Obama DESPAIR Syndrome. Everyday when opens his mouth to say things like, “there are no earmarks!” “The Markets downturn has nothing to do with what we’re doing!” etc. my stomach shrinks and turns over, my head starts to hurt and my will to live loses just another notch on my POM, Pragmatic Optimism Meter.

Nyah, Nyah, We Told You So!

February 24, 2009

Throughout the Democrat Primaries and Election, we who espoused and ranted (ineffectually, I might add against the lustful Obamatrons and MSM) about who and what Barack Obama was were ridiculed, called racist and didn’t want change because we were neanderthals, mouth breathers, racists (again & again), fascists, and any inordinate amount of other disgusting and obscene descriptions as extensions and continuations of BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome), even though he was even running, including then, transference to SDS (Sara [Palin] Derangement Syndrome).

We who paid attention by watching FOXNews; listening to Conservative Talk Radio; read from LittleGreenFootballs, RightWingNews, TownHall, PajamasMedia, HotAir, GatewayPundit, et al; and blogged around the e-niverse knew exactly what we were going to get if BHO was elected–the most leftist and socialist administration in the history of the United States.

So, now, three & a half months from the election after which I, and others much higher in the public domain than I, said we HAD to give Obama a chance (of course we were slammed and ostracized for that from the right) and try to support him so the country didn’t fail, especially since we were told that he was pragmatic and more centrist than he looked on paper. Most of us also qualified that statement and wish with “until he proves different” and then all bets were off and we would shotu from the roof tops. I’m shouting now, is anyone listening? Of course, it’s too late to change things, but hey, I’m yelling my head off again, just as I did before he was elected.

Well, now one month since his Inaugural, HRO has proven we were right and now, we can say, Nyah, Nyah, We Told You SO!  We are already seeing the LEFT’s, Liberals, Socialists and Demon-crats 40 year Wish List passed under the auspices of an Emergency (as Rahm Emanuel stated, “Never let a serious crisis go to waste. What I mean by that is it’s an opportunity to do things you couldn’t do before.”) Under the Banking Crisis we will see the nationalizationof the Financial system and along with the Auto Bailout and the inclusion of the Card Check Law (or the “You’se Gonna Join da Union, arn’cha?” Law) the unlimited expansion of Unions–the UAW runs ads on the Socialist Party USA.

My wife and I almost break our fingers trying to hit the mute button on the remote every time HRO gets live or regurgitated reporting on TV. She told me last night, just as I’m sure most of us have thought frequently, “I am already sick of him (Obama, if you lost track), I can’t stand to hear his voice or see his face.”  We’re all there, but we knew with the MSM and just the fact that he’s President, he was going to have more coverage than anyone else in history. Hopefully, he’ll be just as covered when all of his plans fails and the country falls apart, but I won’t hold my breath.

Here are just two articles that express both of these feelings from myself, others and probably YOU:

Review: John Zielger’s Media Malpractice: How Obama Got Elected…

February 23, 2009

For those that don’t know of John Ziegler’s work exposing the LEFT and Media’s absolute powering of His Royal Obamaness’ election, this review will explain all. I have been signed up with John’s updates since his first apperance on FOXNews just days after the election with interviews of O-voters, showing how uninformed or propagandized they were at the polls.

This documentary is a scathing report on how The ONE was foisted upon us by the MSM (Main Stream Media), and as Bernie Goldberg coins it, “A Slobbering Love Affair: The True (and Pathetic) Story of the Torrid Romance Between Barack Obama and the Mainstream Media” and Sean Hannity calls, “The death of Journalism in 2008”.

Big Hollywood is Andrew Breitbart’s Conservative voice for the minority in Hollywood, the Liberal Bastion of all that’s wrong with America.

Please give the Review a Read and get pissed off once again.

Review: Media Malpractice: How Obama Got Elected and Palin Was Targeted  by John Nolte

Big Hollywood was given an exclusive first look at John Ziegler’s latest documentary covering the media coverage of the 2008 presidential election.

In journalistic terms it’s called a “tick-tock.” This is when the media crafts a news story that takes you behind the scenes of an event and breaks down, piece by linear piece, the individual acts which led up to that event. With “[1] Media Malpractice: How Obama Got Elected and Palin Was Targeted,” director [2] John Ziegler (”[3] Blocking the Path to 9/11“) turns the art of the tick-tock around and aims it, with damning effect, squarely at the news media.  The result is not a documentary, at least not for anyone who believes in truth, fairness or journalistic integrity – the result is a horror film.

If you expect Ziegler to build his case using easy targets like Keith Olbermann [5] aping David Strathairn playing Edward R. Murrow, think again. Olbermann’s a bit player in this cinematic indictment, a clown. The real conspirators run the gamut of every network (cable and otherwise), and most of the major print and online publications. Maybe it’s not a horror story, after all. Maybe it’s something closer to an Agatha Christie mystery where everyone’s the murderer.

The victim, of course, is American journalism. (more…)

Want ‘Hope and Change’? Buy a Goat

February 19, 2009

One of my “New” Favorites on the Web is Pajama’s Media (actually, I’ve been reading them through other blogs for a while now). They have an article from a Ukranian immigrant who’s seen it all before and came to the US to get away from it! My problem is, where can we go to get away from it if we can’t fight it?

Thanks to Susan for passing along to me–

Want ‘Hope and Change’? Buy a Goat

As an old joke suggests, inviting socialism into our homes might help us better appreciate the blessings of freedom.

Support Pajamas Media; Visit Our Advertisers

Although the mainstream media won’t report it as such, Obama’s approval numbers are shrinking. Which means that elsewhere, certain numbers are growing — the unreported-by-the-MSM growing numbers of Americans who are kicking themselves for not having bothered to read the small print underneath the word “change.”

The small print was kind of blurry, while “change” was spelled in huge, pleasing letters on the signs they held at the rallies. The fierce urgency of now was in the air. Everybody was in such a hurry to bring about change; there was no time to ask “why” or “what kind of change.” As objectivity faded into the sunset, their individual brains melted into a euphoric collective mush, swirling around the only remaining absolute — change. In the absence of other standards, the truth became a mere matter of taste, subject to change without notice. If it didn’t change, it wasn’t the truth.

So they won the election; now what? Three months later and almost a month into Obama’s presidency, as the nation is beginning to rub its sore, swollen eyelids and finally trying to focus on reality, it looks in the mirror and, with a shock, notices a gigantic hammer and sickle tattooed on its forehead, which clearly wasn’t there before. The bubbling euphoric pulp has solidified into a depressing pile of unpaid bills and warrants. The computer has turned into a shovel and the big-screen TV into a 1930s-style radio, with the disciplined voice of Dear Leader calling for unity and sacrifice in the face of mounting economic hardships. The only thing left unchanged is the Obama t-shirt with the magic word “change” on the chest.

Being an immigrant from the former USSR — the land of equally redistributed misery — I used to cringe when Americans complained to me about the perceived misery and lack of opportunity under capitalism. I laughed at American homegrown agitators who were carping on behalf of “communities” about the lack of “economic justice.” They sounded like ignorant, spoiled brats who hated their rich parents for giving them the car of the wrong color. The whiners either didn’t realize how good they had it or they were being deliberately misleading. Either way their message was a fraud.

I had witnessed the stagnation and the collapse of a centralized command economy that, in the absence of the markets, was fueled by the carrot and stick of coercion and stale motivational slogans. I had lived through the hyperinflation, when I had to pay a million rubles to a guy who fixed the rusty refrigerator in my kitchen. I had seen the old country plunge into the chaos of mass unemployment and crime, while it was being robbed to the bone by crooked unelected officials who profited from the corrupt scheme to merge socialism and capitalism — a half-baked brainchild of Clinton’s economists who are now advising Obama.

In other words, I had been at the end of this road and I didn’t want to take it again.

I Want a Divorce from the Liberals, Leftists, Socialists…

February 19, 2009

As we all do, I receive a variety of political eMails, most of which we read and sometimes pass along as we agree , find poignant or funny; some we just read and do nothing with them. This one I feel worthy of posting, whether  John J. Wall really exists or not. Thanks to Jerry S. for passing along to me.

To: All American liberals, leftists, social  progressives, socialists, Marxists, and Obama supporters, et al.

From:   John J. Wall – a Conservative  American

 Dear Liberals, Leftists,  and Socialists:

We’ve stuck  together since the late 1950’s, but the latest  election  process and your bailout stimulus plan has made me  realize that I want  a divorce.

Although we’ve tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, the sad truth is that the relationship between conservatives and liberals has run its course.

Our two ideological sides of America can not and will not ever agree on what is right. Therefore, let’s just end it on friendly terms. You go your way, and I’ll go mine.

We can smile, chalk it up to irreconcilable differences, shake hands, and go our own way. But to do that, we’ll need a “Separation Agreement.” I have drawn one up. I hope you agree with it.

 SEPARATION AGREEMENT  PROPOSAL

I propose that our two  groups – Conservatives and Liberals  –  equitably divide up the country by  land-mass, each of us taking approximately  50% of the total square miles. I’ll concede that this is the most difficult part of the separation agreement, but I’m sure our two sides can come to terms.

After that’s done, the rest should be relatively easy!   Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

For example, we conservatives don’t like redistributive taxes, so you can keep them! They’re all yours!

You are also welcome to take the liberal judges, the ACLU, the affirmative action crowd, the NAACP, and the National Organization of Women.  We don’t want any of them.

We also don’t want Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. You can have them.

Since you hate guns and war, we’ll take the firearms, the cops, the NRA, and the military, that you hate so much.

Along with Pelosi and Reid, you can also have Oprah, Michael Moore, (Oliver and Sharon) Stone, and Rosie O’Donnell. (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all of them).

We’ll take the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies,  Wal-Mart, McDonald’s, and Wall  Street.

You can have your beloved homeboys, hippies, and illegal aliens.   We’ll take the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO’s, and rednecks.

We Cannot Become the LEFT and Bash Obama

January 20, 2009

Today marks a historic day in the continuing experiment of the United States of America. Truly, it is a day that should be a celebration when a man of color is inaugurated as the 44th President of the United States–even though he is not a descendant of slaves, still he is the first African-American. In fact, he is literally an African (Father)- American (Mother), where the predominance of those that use that identity are African descendants of American birth. I wonder if someday his identity will be discussed further by those of racist leanings–those on the left–by attacking the very fact that he wasn’t born of American slaves and therefor, not the first African-American President. But, I digress, that will surely be a subject of the future–mark my words.

Today, though we Conservatives must pledge not to become that which we most hated the last eight years. We cannot become as the left, as we termed them “Bush Bashers”, the “KoolAide Drinkers”; we have to be smarter than they–we have to be better.

We must not become lily-livered, we must continue to hold to our principles and moral objections to much of the platform of the Democrat Party. We are the folks that argue for law & order, and the orderly transfer of power is one our oldest laws, so we have to support that. We are the folks that believe in the Commander-in-Chief, so we must respect the Office and the Man that takes that seat. We have to support the President, but we don’t have to be quiet about his policies, his words and his actions; we do have to be civil about the way we go about our opposition, we have to be better and smarter than those whining and crying for the last eight years. Remember, they had, and still have, a left-leaning MSM (Main Steam Media) to support them, we have FOXNews,  blogs and talk radio (as long as the latter last against the promise to re-instate the (un)Fairness Doctrine), so if we go and act as they–we’ll get the attention alright and it won’t be good. They’ll actually turn it around on us, just as I warn–they’ll say that Conservatives should be better than their opposition, just as our transgressors with the (R) behind their names that do stupid stuff, go to hookers, cheat on their wives or have gay trysts are held to a much higher standard because we espouse those moral demands from all, not just our own.

One of the best articles today on that is David Limbaugh’s thought on this subject, below is his take.  I say that we thank President Bush for keeping us safe since 9/11 and for  standing his ground in doing so regardless of the political consequences or the hatred of those on the left. I say we welcome Barack Obama as our new President with as much happiness this day promises. But, I say we watch, read and consider all the things he says and does and ensure that we hold him to our standards and requirements civilly, in words, actions and print–just be smarter and better than they were.

Republicans Must Turn Down the Kool-Aid
David Limbaugh   Tuesday, January 20, 2009

It’s going to take real courage the next four years for Republicans to swim against the tide and oppose Barack Obama — in whom so many have placed their hopes, almost to the point of idolatry. But if Obamagoverns in a way that’s consistent with his promises, the country’s future security and prosperity will depend on spirited opposition.

It’s bad enough for the liberal media to deify Obama, but it’s almost unbearable for right-wing commentators and politicians to jump on this bandwagon, as well, as if Obama’s personal attributes have blinded them to the policy dangers he represents.

During the Bush years, the left blamed Bush for the absence of bipartisanship, when, by any rational measure, they were the ones whose relentless vitriol made bipartisanship impossible.

Forgive the analogy, but their reversal of blame is reminiscent of a memorable scene in the movie “Animal House,” when fraternity hotshot “Otter” pressured the hapless legacy pledge, “Flounder,” into lending him his brother’s car. When Otter returned the car after having demolished it, Otter chastised Flounder for entrusting the car to him. “You (screwed) up. You trusted me.”

Now, after eight years of this poison, the same specious theme from the Bush bashershas found a new application: “Republicans must work with Barack Obama and restore a spirit of collegiality to Washington,” as if they have any moral authority to be lecturing, but even more importantly, as if a spirit of collegiality will solve America’s problems.

To be clear, I am not advocating that Republicans return the same mean-spirited partisanship with which the left pummeled Bush. But conservatives must not abandon their principles in pursuit of the seductive, illusory goal of bipartisanship.

You’d think this principle too sophomoric to articulate, and so do I — almost. But have you been listening to Republican politicians and “conservative” commentators lately behaving as if their eternal salvation depends on jumping aboard a train headed in the opposite direction from everything in which they profess to believe?

Of course the right should support Obamaon things they agree with him on and never oppose him gratuitously for purely partisan reasons. Indeed, they should rejoice if Obama were to morph into a free market enthusiast, national security stalwart, champion of the unborn, and protector of our borders.

But such talk is academic, as the chances of Obama being substantively Reaganesque are less than his becoming obese, which means that during the next few years, the articulation of principled conservatism could never be more important. They must resist pressures for bipartisanship from those who will continue to use it as a weapon to intimidate principled opposition.

Perhaps a secret desire for approval from the elites and intelligentsia of the Northeast Corridor explains the squishiness of so many on the right today. Or maybe they are paranoid about appearing ever so slightly racist if they fail to extol the virtues of the first black president — no disrespect intended to Bill Clinton — even if his policies are anathema to them.

But can’t we acknowledge the positive aspects of America’s historic strides in certain aspects of race relations without surrendering to the advancement of liberalism just because the first black president is behind it?

What our government does during the next four years — maybe the next 100 days — could have a lasting impact on the future of America’s liberty, prosperity and even solvency.

Republicans are already on seriously thin ice, having presided over an era of unprecedented spending and consistently failing to articulate conservative principles on a wide variety of issues. But what Obama has in store will make President Bush appear, in retrospect, like a libertarian.

If, for the sake of appearing to work with Obama, Republicans reduce themselves to offering merely liberal lite the next four years, we’re going to have trouble recovering from the inevitable damage to which they will have contributed.

They’ve already ceded ground on the need for a “stimulus package,” though conservative realists understand that doing nothing would be far less destructive to our long-term financial health than throwing good money after bad under the illusion that the government mint is a panacea.

Will they have the courage to stand tough against the further socialization of our health care system and offering market reforms instead, even against the demagogic claims that they are without compassion for the “uninsured”? If not, they will be contributing not only to the permanent demise of America’s health care system but also to possibly the end of America’s free market tradition.

It’s one thing for Obama’s leftist cult followers to be oblivious as to the source of their giddiness, but it’s completely unacceptable for the right to be rudderless in the face of this potential juggernaut. Lord help us and this great nation if they don’t regain their moorings very soon.
