I’m Looking for a Job, Agent or Publisher–Perhaps all Three

March 17, 2009

Okay, folks, it’s my blog and I’m indulging myself.  No surprise to most that visit here, I am unemployed and looking for a job.

I am a resourceful and experienced high-tech electronics sales professional.

That said, how did I become such? Hard hands-on work my entire career, from my Naval service as an Electronics Technician (Forward) on submarines in ESM (Electronics Surveillance Measures) and Radar; through my Field Engineering in Nevada as part of the Electronic Warfare Range project for the Joint Chiefs of Staff where I more or less portrayed a Brigadier General in the Russian Army Missile Corps; to private high voltage power distribution equipment installation, testing and servicing in the Houston area; then into the Semiconductor Manufacturing Industry installing, on-site engineering and working on Ion Implanters and CVD process equipment.

I was fortunate enough to be hired for a multiple discipline joint venture pricinpaled by a major Japanese firm to be the primary American technical interface with the foreign engineers and startup service manager for a variety of manufacturing equipment including, again, an Ion Implanter, as well as other products. This experience was so important in that I worked with different cultures, but also carried both a tool box and briefcase. I sucessfully made the first large capital sale for the company to a major semiconductor manufacturer.

As with all things at that time, there were many difficulties in dealing with Japan monetarily and the venture died a quick death. Once again, fortune smiled and I moved into full time sales with a leading Printed Circuit Board manufacturing equipment company forcasting and selling CNC Drillers, Driller/Routers, CAD systems and Photoplotters; from there I was recruited to another, and instrumental to the manufacturing of PCBs, selling their CAD and Photoplotters. Eventually, as many others before me, I formed my own representation firm, taking on products and capital equipment primarily in both Semiconductor and PCB manufacturing industries, although I called on a number of others.

I the recent past, in order to stay close to home (capital equipment sales are demanding and require considerable travel) and raise my youngest son, I sold residential and light commercial HVAC, as well as engineered system solutions and developed geo-thermal plans.

With my son’s schooling finished, I was able to once more look at the high-tech industry, prepared to travel as required, and took a sales postion with a PCB design and manufacturer where my primary responsiblilty was to grow the market share through prospecting of new customer clients and expansion of existing.

I was successful in bringing in new customers, but timing was against us, so shortly after the progression began, orders dwindled as our military and consumer electronic manufacturing customers’ orders died with the new administration and economic crisis, and I was laid off.

Now, whether the following helps or hurts me in the search for employment, I also write in two genres of fiction, and I am looking for an agent or publisher. It seems that breaking into the published writer industry is near to impossible unless you are published first–seems like the proverbial Catch-22, doesn’t it? I had hopes that starting my blog would help, but I haven’t seen any, probably because of the limited exposure; therein lies this appeal I post today.

Regarding my writing; I started with a fantasy story, more in the Arthurian-esque line than high fantasy, such as Tolkien and others, mine is more based in human interaction with magic as the sub-story. I have completed (written & edited) the first trilogy and have at least eleven more novels in the series to write. I recently wrote my first novel in espionage/mystery/thriller (which is posted in “Pages” on the blog) dealing with a terrorist-sleeper and a submarine (if you can imagine from my background); it is currently being revised and edited, but is finished for all practical purposes.  I foresee the main character having a continuing story with at least four more novels I’m currently working. I guess I could be a prodigious writer if given the chance and from the many reviews from those  that have read my work for the last many years that I’ve shared it.

So, to recap, I am not afraid of work, I started early on pushing a lawnmower and selling GRIT (you’d have to be of an age to know about that newspaper), then making pizzas through high school; I was even a nuclear med tech (portable) before joining the Navy. I learned electronics in the best schools in the world, the US NAVY, at a time when you learned component level engineering and troubleshooting, then fixed systems aboard submarines (wihtout spare parts) and drove them as well. I tell potential employers I can work anywhere and that you can’t make me work or send me to any a worst place than a submarine. Leaving the Navy I became a field engineer and Russian general shooting down American planes (simulated of course), followed by the rest of my resume as you read above.

I am sucessful in all I do, timing of life events has been challenging throughout my life, but as a repsonible husband and father, I made the best choices and moved ahead for the betterment of myself, my family and our livlihood.

I am not scared or too old to learn new things–in fact, I thrive on new challenges and education. If I can drive a submarine, I could learn to drive a CAT; if I can sell furnaces in Texas, I can sell anything. If I can operate and ion implanter to modify the resistance of the molecular make up of a substrate then I can learn to operate just about anything with knobs, button, keys or dials.

I am verbally articulate and would love to say I am an accomplished writer, but with nothing published, except vanity here and my first novel, before I knew any better, I cannot lie and further myself without falsification.

When you meet me, I’m straightforward, no BS, even though I’m from west Texas and can deal with the best of them, I presume and know from experience that will accomplish nothing; too bad politicians haven’t learned that.

You get all my knowledge, it’s extensive across a broad range of industries and expertise in many, when you hire me. You get my undivided attention, but I won’t lie to you and tell you that work comes before my family–it doesn’t–does yours?

I’m a silver-tounged devil, but find that which you will find interesting versus what most want you to hear. I can and have make presentations from the mailroom clerks to the CEOs & Boards. I can kick clods in the field in dress shoes or boots, again, I have done both. I can drive a submarine, truck, car and ride a horse–doubt too many others can say all that. I can dress in a three-piece banker or work shirt and bluejeans to get the job done. And as I said before, you can’t make me work in or go to any worst places than I haven’t already been. BTW, finally, I am willing to relocate just about anywhere.

So, why am I unemployed?

Because I haven’t talked to the right person as yet–is that you?

Contact me by leaving a comment (your email will show to me and your comment won’t show until I approve, etc., which I won’t)or if you’d like to network and a brief desciption of the opportunity or your background and I will reply and attach my resume.

[And, please, I beg you, no BS or GRQ (get rich quick, including Grants) schemes or scams–I will report you as SPAM otherwise.]

I Wonder How Obama Will Answer Chavez’s Call to Socialism?

March 6, 2009

On DRUDGE:

CHAVEZ CALLS ON OBAMA TO FOLLOW PATH OF SOCIALISM
Fri Mar 06 2009 17:13:48 ET

Caracas – Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Friday called upon US President Barack Obama to follow the path to socialism, which he termed as the “only” way out of the global recession. “Come with us, align yourself, come with us on the road to socialism. This is the only path. Imagine a socialist revolution in the United States,” Chavez told a group of workers in the southern Venezuelan state of Bolivar.

The controversial Venezuelan leader, who taunted the United States as a source of capitalistic evil under former president George W Bush, added that the United States needs a leader who can take it to a “higher” destiny and bring it out of “the sad role that it has been given, as a murderous, attacking power that is hated all around the world.”

Chavez said that people are calling Obama a “socialist” for the measures of state intervention he is taking to counter the crisis, so it would not be too far-fetched to suggest that he might join the project of “21st century socialism” that the Venezuelan leader is heading.

“Nothing is impossible. Who would have thought in the 1980s that the Soviet Union would disappear? No one,” he said.

“That murderous, genocidal empire has to end, and some day there has to come a leader … who interprets the best of a people who also include human beings who suffer, endure, weep and laugh,” the outspoken Chavez said.

I Love Mark Steyn, an Update on OSD2

March 6, 2009

Just a little update from my Post Yesterday. It looks like Mark Steyn, whom I love immensely, thinks along the same lines as I do, that HRO is determined to destroy America’s economy in order to bring about his designs on the perfect Euro-topia, the USSA (United Socialist States of America).

NOTE: Look at the tanking of the DOW the last two days after the brief 100+ blip on Wednesday (after 5 consecutive days of going down) as Obama continues to lay out his plans and policies. With every opening of his golden mouth (even though he continues to say that nothing his administration or his words have any effect on the market) it drops again (yesterday after the Health Care plan) and again (early on it was down 109 , but came back up to a whopping +32.50 after his speech in Ohio this morning) AND he hasn’t even gotten to instituting Cap & Trade yet–imagine what that will do to the DOW Industrials since he plans to completely destroy business and companies to fight the Anthropogenic Global Warming Hoax.

From the NRO Corner Blog:

Not a Bug but a Feature   [Mark Steyn]

In The Wall Street Journal, Michael Boskin writes:

Mr. Obama’s $3.6 trillion budget blueprint, by his own admission, redefines the role of government in our economy and society. The budget more than doubles the national debt held by the public, adding more to the debt than all previous presidents — from George Washington to George W. Bush — combined. It reduces defense spending to a level not sustained since the dangerous days before World War II, while increasing nondefense spending (relative to GDP) to the highest level in U.S. history. And it would raise taxes to historically high levels (again, relative to GDP). And all of this before addressing the impending explosion in Social Security and Medicare costs.

What emerges from such a blueprint will not be America. The United States will survive as a geographical designation, a collection of zip codes, but what goes on within them will be a Euro-Canadian form of societal arrangement (I write more on this in the new NR, out today, I do believe).

If you’re David Brooks or Christopher Buckley, you’re baffled at what your sensible moderate bipartisan economic centrist president is doing. If your objective is to “stimulate” the economy, why would you do this stuff?

But, if your objective is fundamentally to transform the relationship between the citizen and the state, it all makes perfect sense. On the radio yesterday, Mark Larson asked me about all this and I replied:

As Rahm Emanuel says, he has essentially to use the crisis as an opportunity. And that’s what it’s about. I think that the plummeting Dow actually serves his purpose… My worry is, though, that when you look at the riots that have been happening in Bulgaria and Greece and Iceland and other places, is that when people turn against the government, it’s usually because they’re banging on the door of parliament saying why don’t you guys do more for me? In other words, they’re saying a $3.7 trillion dollar package isn’t enough, we need a $20 trillion dollar package. So I’m a bit worried that when this public dissatisfaction with Obama starts, a big chunk of it will be from people who are actually demanding even bigger and even more Europeanized solutions to these things.

Obama’s priority is not the restoration of the economy but, as he says, the “remaking of America.” If you take him at his word, his indifference to the Dow makes perfect sense.

Wildebeest Care is the Key to Economic Recovery!

March 6, 2009

Centered by the ever-present bronze-tinted, but opaque teleprompters (whispers among the White House Residential Staff say that before joining Michelle in bed each night, the TPs–as they call them–are arranged on either side of the Presidential bed’s headboard with a script running to the effect, “Yeah, baby! Yeah, Momma; Daddy’s got yo’ back and I cannot lie!” and “The Big O’s a gonna fix it right!”–there has been no video to confirm this, unfortunately, but keep watching to YouTube, you never know) and flanked by his Minister of Propaganda; the Secretary of the Interior, amazingly the only nominee that had paid his taxes, but expects to recoup that money through the Indian Affairs and Casinos Department; and Wildebeest Czar, Jim Folwer, the anaconda-wrestling, geriatric right-hand man, sidekick, schlub and patsy to Marlin Perkins on Wild Kingdom, President (Transparency and No Earmarks) Obama addressed the ever-so-important National Wildlife Reform Forum yesterday.

After introductions and the wait for the teleprompters to warm up, he prefaced (reading from said devices) the need for the forum with, “By a wide margin, the biggest threat to our nation’s balance sheet is the skyrocketing cost of Wildebeest care–it’s not even close.  If we want to create jobs and rebuild our economy, and get our federal budget under control, then we have to address the crushing cost of Wildebeest care this year, in this administration.” And finally, he expressed the direness of emergency, “The cost of Wildebeest care now causes a  bankruptcy in America every thirty seconds.” Gosh, who gnu?

When confronted by a reporter, that Wildebeests are not native to the United States or the Western hemisphere for that matter, and pretty much restricted to the African continent and almost exclusively to the Serengeti, and asked for the research regarding the statistics on bankruptcies caused by Gnu Care, the effervescent and bouncy, Christina Romer of the Council of Economic Czars and Rasputins (doesn’t she remind you of your old Bozo Bop Bag, the punching ballon from your childhood, or a Russian Nested Doll that you want to un-nest to see if she just disappears), she bounced and giggled, “I’m gonna [sic] to have to  check the numbers for you; I think the important thing is the idea is absolutely true.”

So, now we have another (one) expressly derived reason and cause of the Economic Crisis and the KEY to recovery–fix Wildebeest Care!

In reality, he was centered between the ever-present teleprompters, and we’re still awaiting the video evidence regarding the WH Bedroom rumors, and flanked by his minions, but Dear Leader was speaking before the Health Care Forum and indeed The Key to recovery was fixing health care.

“By a wide margin, the biggest threat to our nations balance sheet is the skyrocketing cost of health care; it’s not even close.” Followed by, “If we want to create jobs and rebuild our economy, and get our federal budget under control, then we have to address the crushing cost of health care this year in this administration.” and “The cost of health care now causes a  bankruptcy in America Every thirty seconds.”

Obama Despair Syndrome, ODS2

March 5, 2009

Comrades, er…. No! I’m not ready to go there yet.  Umm, listen folks, I’ve had a hard time the last few days trying to isolate the idea I wanted to post about–I finally decided that I’d try to squash all the latest bull hockey together, so I’ll try.

During the Bush years the LEFT, especially the FarLEFT, suffered from BDS, Bush Derangement Syndrome. The mere mention of his name, glimpse of his face or of him walking or the whisper of his voice, most specifically his wordings of speech, brought about foaming mouths, apoplectic jerking of limbs and complete spinning of heads until they popped off whereupon it would continue to spin like a top on the floor  it’s eyes bugged out with spittle and snot spraying outward infecting others nearby.

As we came to understand that HRO (His Royal Obamaness), The ONE, The Messiah, Dear Leader was not only going to win the Demon-crat nomination for President, but then the election itself, ODS, Obama Derangement Syndrome,  [see fellow WP blogger’s take, altho I have already written about it in another world, linked below: Coming Soon… Obama Derangement Syndrome] set in and rabid Conservatives  began their own version of what had afflicted TheLEFT for eight years with similar disastrous results. They claim he’s not a TRUE born American, that he’s Muslim, that this & that, and waste so much time and effort trying to stop him from taking office or, even now, trying to have him impeached, etc. instead of working to make our representatives stand up to all the Path to Socialism bills, policies and executive orders.

I came to realize since I posted last that I am beginning to suffer from OSD2, Obama DESPAIR Syndrome. Everyday when opens his mouth to say things like, “there are no earmarks!” “The Markets downturn has nothing to do with what we’re doing!” etc. my stomach shrinks and turns over, my head starts to hurt and my will to live loses just another notch on my POM, Pragmatic Optimism Meter.

You cannot turn on anything, TV, Radio or Internet without being (more…)
